Using the Postbid Module in the IX Custom Library

The Postbid Module integrates with Google Ad Manager and allows for a high level of customization. The key difference between the Postbid Module and the GAM Manual Module is that in this module, the auction in Google Ad Manager occurs first. Index Exchange (IX) has one line item that represents an average of what we think the real time CPM (cost per thousand) is. Our line item competes against other line items in the Google Ad Manager auction that do contain a real time price. Our actual bids may be higher than the price of our line item, but we can't be sure of it at the time. Postbid Module requires occasional maintenance to make sure that the price offered in our line item accurately reflects the current market.

Use this module in the IX Custom Library™ in the following situations:

  • You use Google Ad Manager.
  • Your prefer a simplified technical setup.
  • You're comfortable with occasional line item maintenance.

Note: If you choose Postbid Module, deals must be setup using Google Ad Manager's API. The IX App does not support deals in Postbid Module.

How it works

The following describes how the Postbid Module in the IX Custom Library works when it's implemented on your site:

Step 1

Your site makes the ad call to Google Ad Manager and an auction is completed.

IX has one line item in the auction that represents an average price of what we think our bidding adapters will offer for the impression.

Step 2

If our line item is the highest price available, we win the auction.

Step 3

IX Custom Library calls all of the certified adapters that you want to include in your configuration. Bidding adapters conduct auctions and return demand.

Step 4

IX Custom Library selects a winning line item.

Step 5

IX Custom Library communicates with the winning creative and injects the appropriate ad into the correct slot on your site.
