Using Flex Video to render video ads in web banner ad slots (Beta)

Flex Video An Index feature that allows Index to render a video ad in a banner ad slot, using our own renderer. is a feature that allows Index Exchange (Index) to render a video ad in a banner ad slot The location on a publisher's website where an advertisement is served. Also known as inventory.. With Flex Video enabled, publishers with web banner supply can access Index's video demand, and allow Index to display a video ad in a banner ad slot using our own renderer. Flex Video is currently in Beta and is only available for the 300x250 ad size. Publishers must also pass the Global Placement Identifier (GPID) field in bid requests to Index. To enable Flex Video, contact your Index Representative.

How it works

Number one icon

You send Index a banner ad request for a 300x250 ad size. The ad request contains a banner object within the impression object. The request must also include the Global Placement Identifier (GPID) in the imp.ext.gpid field.

Note: Currently, the 300x600, 336x280, and 970x250 ad sizes for Flex Video are in alpha testing. For more information about these ad sizes, contact your Index Representative.

Number two icon

When Flex Video is enabled, Index sends multi-format bid requests to eligible DSPs that include the following objects:

  • The banner object that you originally sent in the request.

  • The video object that Index adds to the request. The video object includes the playbackmethod, with a value of 6 and also includes the plcmt, with a value of 4.

Number three icon

Eligible DSPs bid on the banner or video impression opportunity and return their bid responses to Index.

Number four icon

For Flex Video bids, Index adjusts the winning bid price to be an “Expected Value Bid” price before running an auction. This is done to account for potential billing discrepancies that could occur due to differences in impression counting methodologies between banner and video ad formats. For more information about how billing works for Flex Video, see Understanding Flex Video transactions.
