Targeting setup for the 2026 U.S. midterm elections

Use the following best practices when configuring a Marketplace Package for the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. These recommendations can help you access inventory curated for political campaigns while maximizing reach.

Start with inventory curated for political campaigns

Select a DealClosed A private auction that allows media owners to offer specific inventory directly to selected buyers identified by a deal ID. Terms are negotiated and are agreed upon before the auction occurs. with Publishers that packages inventory curated for political campaigns. These featured deals make it easier to launch political campaigns without identifying individual publishers yourself.

In the Targeting section, expand Publishers or Deals with Publishers, select Target deals with publishers, then choose the deal that best matches your campaignClosed A collection of multiple ads in different formats.. You can search for poli to browse available political deals. Here are some deal IDs that you can use:

Streaming TVClosed Streaming TV (STV). Video content that is shown across any device with an internet connection, for example a Connected TV (CTV).

Tip: Match your package targeting to the inventory included in the selected deal. For example, if the deal contains streaming TV inventory, configure your package to target the corresponding inventory channels and video formats. Target relevant political audiences

Use audience segments to reach the voters most relevant to your campaign.

In the Targeting section, expand Segments and search for political to browse available segments. Common categories include:

  • Political donors

  • Party affiliation

  • Political and social views

  • Geographic voter segments

  • Political content consumption behaviors

  • Engagement with key political figures

Note: Segments vary in cost and audience size. Consider factoring segment fees into your campaign budget and reach expectations. For more information on segment fees, see Understanding fees for using segments.

Focus delivery with geotargeting

Use geotargeting to reach the locations that are most important to your campaign.

In the Targeting section, expand Geography and consider configuring one or more of the following options:

Target specific states, for example, Ohio.

Metro codes

Include or exclude regional marketing areas within a state.

Zip and postal codes

Include or exclude up to 5,000 zip codes to target local communities. For example, you can target 11221, 11222, and 11226 to focus delivery in Brooklyn, New York.

Note: If you target zip codes, also select United States under Countries. This ensures that the correct regions are targeted.

Match inventory targeting to the curated inventory

Configure inventory targeting to align with the curated inventory in your selected deal. Depending on what's included, review the following targeting sections:

  • General: Inventory channels, formats and sizes, and device types.

  • Video: Video placementClosed A collection of site IDs., playback methods, and skippability.

  • Content: Genres, networks and channels, live stream, and content language.

For example, a streaming TV political campaign may benefit from the following targeting configuration:

  • Formats and sizes: Video

  • Inventory channels: Web or In-App (depending on inventory available through the selected deal)

  • Content genres: News

  • Networks and channels: Networks included in the campaign

Note: Applying targeting that's more restrictive than the inventory included in the selected deal can reduce campaign scale and limit available impressions.

Monitor package delivery

After the Marketplace Package is activated, use the Activity tab to verify that the package is generating bid requests and impressions. For more information, see View how a specific deal is performing.

If the package isn't delivering as expected, review your targeting to make sure it aligns with the inventory included in the selected deal.
